The long-running series “Sesame Street” got a 50th birthday present at the 2020 Daytime Emmys for children’s, animated and lifestyle programs, which streamed on Sunday night, July 26, during a live ceremony hosted remotely by Loni Love (“The Real”) due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. “Street” won Best Preschool Children’s Program, as it has done many times before. “Sesame Street’s” 50th season also won awards for Best Directing for a Children’s/Young Adult Program, Best Principal Performance in a Daytime Program (Ryan Dillon for the 50th anniversary special) and Best Short Format Children’s Program for “Sesame Street in Communities: Meet Salia.” At this year’s main Daytime Emmy telecast on June 26, “Sesame Street” also won Best Special Class Special for its anniversary celebration.
