Shout! Studios Acquires Highly Anticipated Indie Comedy Feature LAZY SUSAN - Starring And Written By Sean Hayes

An All-Star Cast Includes Allison Janney, Margo Martindale, Jim Rash and Matthew Broderick

Shout! Studios, the multi-platform filmed entertainment distribution and production arm of Shout! Factory, has acquired North American rights to LAZY SUSAN, a big-hearted comedy feature from Hazy Mills Productions and Dominion Pictures in association with Stargazer Films. Directed by Nick Peet (Grimm, Endless Love), multi-award-winning writer, producer, comedian and actor Sean Hayes (Will & Grace) leads an impressive cast that includes Carrie Aizley (Transparent), Margo Martindale (Sneaky Pete), Jim Rash (The Descendants), Kiel Kennedy (Robot Chicken), Danny Johnson (Daredevil), Darlene Hunt (Parks and Recreations), Skipp Sudduth (Ronin), J.R. Ramirez (Manifest), and Matty Cardarople (Stranger Things) with Matthew Broderick (The Producers) and Allison Janney (I, Tonya). Written by Sean Hayes, Darlene Hunt, and Carrie Aizley, LAZY SUSAN is produced by Carl Moellenberg of Dominion Pictures, Todd Milliner of Hazy Mills Productions, and Shane O’Brien and Zach O’Brien of Stargazer Films. The announcement was made today by Shout’s founders and CEOs Bob Emmer and Garson Foos, writer-producer-actor Sean Hayes, theater-film producer Carl Moellenberg, and Jordan Fields, Shout’s Vice President of Acquisitions.

Shout! Studios has secured all North American distribution rights to LAZY SUSAN, including theatrical, digital, video-on-demand, broadcast, and home entertainment for cross-platform releases in the U.S. and Canada. Shout! Studios plans a strategic launch of this movie across all major entertainment platforms, beginning with a theatrical launch in 2020.

Lazy Susan is that all too rare indie gem with a distinct, assured and very funny voice. This film knows exactly what it is, in the best possible way, and the cast is a genuine dream team, led by a pitch-perfect Sean Hayes,” stated Jordan Fields, Vice President of Acquisitions at Shout! Studios.

From Sean Hayes: "After years of development and finally getting it to the screen, we feel confident that we found the right partners in Shout! Factory. I can’t wait for people to go out and see LAZY SUSAN because God knows, she’s not getting up to see you."

Producer Carl Moellenberg said “Sean and I had previously worked together on Broadway on the play An Act of God. When Stargazer sent me Sean’s ‘passion project’ film script, we were excited to help bring his unique vision to life. Audiences will laugh at and relate to Susan’s journey.”

The movie deal was negotiated by Jordan Fields and Vanessa Keiko Flanders, Shout’s Vice President of Business affairs, and Andrew Herwitz, President of The Film Sales Company on behalf of the filmmaking team.

LAZY SUSAN

Movie synopsis

Susan has always been the self-centered oddball in her family who lazily skated through life with their grudging support until one day she wakes up to realize she’s middle-aged with no job, no rela- tionship, and an increasingly estranged family. She finally decides to take charge and turn things around, but never having done anything herself before, the struggle is real (and hilarious) as Susan becomes the woman she always wanted to be, all on her own.
