While we mostly tune in to our beloved Mystery Science Theater 3000 to catch a few hilarious riffs on bad movies, let's not forget that each episode also offers an abundance of Satellite of Love sketches featuring Joel, Mike, the Bots and the Mads showcasing wacky inventions, singing original songs and much more. Some of these sketches have become bona fide classics in their own right, further cementing already-loved episodes in the hearts and minds of hardcore and casual MSTies alike.
We took to the Internet (AKA the uncompromisable bastion of undisputed truth) to ask fans about their favorite MST3K sketches of all time. We present the results here for your consideration and/or ridicule. And even though we know, as with any online list, that this is sure to satisfy 100% of the fans, if we somehow missed your favorite please let us know in the comments below.
8) A Hamdinger Of An Exit
From Mitchell
It was a bittersweet moment, the sad end of an era in the most popular MST3K episode of all time. Of course, the torch would be properly and successfully carried for years to come by Mike, but Joel will always be the "original." And a box of Hamdingers will always be the way out.7) Hired! The Musical
From Bride Of The Monster
The remarkable thing about this sketch is that it makes you wish there really was a full-length musical version of the Hired! short that isn't interrupted by that pesky Movie Sign. But until we can buy that ticket, this sketch is all we've got. I got a job today, I'm selling Chevrolet, I'm bringing home good pay, I just got hired!
6) Beyond Thunderdome
From Laserblast
You know a joke is good when it requires one to hog-tie and oil-rag its detractors in order to pull it off properly. Welcome to the Satellite of Laughs.
5) A Joke By Ingmar Bergman
From The Sword And The Dragon
MST3K may very well be considered "high art" by its fans, but it never got any higher than this sketch.
4) Cowboy Mike's Ricochet Barbecue Sauce
From Starfighters
Cranial ports be damned! Who cares about futuristic technology when there's the possibility that a barbecue sauce might be bold? So bold, in fact, it's not recommended for human consumption. Hold onto yer hats!
3) A Patrick Swayze Christmas
From Santa Claus Conquers The Martians
Anyone else feel warm and fuzzy while watching this? Maybe it's Tom Servo's snow globe head, maybe it's the tinsel, maybe it's the violent Road House references... No matter the reason, "A Patrick Swayze Christmas" has become an indelible holiday tradition for MSTies everywhere.
2) Idiot Control Now
From Pod People
All I wanna feel now is the wind in my eyes. IT STINKS.
1) Torgo's Pizza
From "Manos" The Hands Of Fate
Because when Togo's Pizza is closed, Torgo's Pizza is the next best thing. Mike wins first place for his spot-on Torgo impression. The master would approve!
