Shout! Studios, the multi-platform filmed entertainment distribution and production arm of Shout! Factory, has acquired North American rights to THE HOUSE OF TOMORROW, a captivating coming-of-age drama from Superlative Films. Directed and written by Peter Livolsi, THE HOUSE OF TOMORROW is the highly-anticipated movie adaption of Peter Bognanni’s best-selling novel of the same name. The film stars Ellen Burstyn (Interstellar), Nick Offerman (Fargo), Asa Butterfield (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children), Alex Wolff (Patriot’s Day), Maude Apatow (Girls), and Michaela Watkins (Casual). THE HOUSE OF TOMORROW is produced by Tarik Karam, Danielle Renfrew Behrens, and Superlative Films in association with Water’s End Productions. Ellen Burstyn and Nick Offerman serve as executive producers along with Tom Dolby, Bill & Ruth Ann Harnisch, Donna & Kevin Gruneich, and Patty Quillin. The film was supported by the Sundance Institute and the Tribeca Film Institute Sloan Filmmaker Fund. THE HOUSE OF TOMORROW premiered earlier this year at San Francisco International Film Festival to press acclaim and great audience enthusiasm. The announcement was made today by Shout! Factory’s founders Richard Foos, Bob Emmer and Garson Foos, and Superlative Films’ Danielle Renfrew Behrens.
Shout! Factory has secured all North American distribution rights to THE HOUSE OF TOMORROW, including theatrical, video on-demand, digital, broadcast and home entertainment for cross-platform releases in the U.S. and Canada. Shout! Studios plans a strategic rollout of this movie across multiple entertainment platforms, beginning with a U.S. theatrical launch in April 2018.
“THE HOUSE OF TOMORROW is a strikingly assured blend of drama, comedy and coming-of-age momentousness. With a pitch perfect cast and the spirit of punk guiding them, we know this film will find the broad audience it deserves,” said Jordan Fields, Vice President of Acquisitions at Shout! Factory.
“We’re thrilled to be working with Shout! Their enthusiasm for the film is palpable. With their music roots and eclectic taste, they are the perfect partner for this film,” said Danielle Renfrew Behrens, film’s producer and founder of Superlative Films.
The film deal was negotiated by Shout’s Vice President of Business Affairs, Vanessa Keiko Flanders for Shout! Factory, and Josh Braun of Submarine Entertainment on behalf of Superlative Films and the filmmakers.
Movie synopsis
16 year old Sebastian Prendergast has spent most of his life with his Nana in their geodesic dome home tourist attraction where she raises him on the futurist teachings of her former mentor Buckminster Fuller in hopes that one day Sebastian will carry Fuller’s torch and make the world a better place.
But when a stroke sidelines Nana, Sebastian begins sneaking around with Jared, a chain-smoking, punk-obsessed 16 year old with a heart transplant who lives in the suburbs with his bible-banging single father Alan and teenage sister Meredith. Sebastian and Jared form a band and with his Nana’s dreams, his first real friendship, and a church talent show at stake, Sebastian must decide if he wants to become the next Buckminster Fuller, the next Sid Vicious, or something else entirely.
